Flash Flood Watch, Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 3:31 AM CDT Apr. 29, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Sunday morning...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Arkansas and Oklahoma... including the following
counties... in Arkansas... Benton... Carroll... Crawford...
Franklin... Madison... Sebastian and Washington AR. In
Oklahoma... Adair... Cherokee... Choctaw... Craig... creek...
Delaware... Haskell... Latimer... Le Flore... Mayes... McIntosh...
Muskogee... Okfuskee... Okmulgee... Ottawa... Pittsburg...
Pushmataha... Rogers... Sequoyah... Tulsa and Wagoner.

* Through Sunday morning

* widespread rainfall amounts of 4 to 6 inches are expected across
southeast Oklahoma into northwest Arkansas, with locally higher
amounts approaching 8 to 10 inches. A warm front located from
near Ozark Arkansas to north of McAlester Oklahoma will be the
focus for several rounds of showers and thunderstorms with
heavy rainfall, mainly near and north of the front. The front
will begin to push south later today with heavy rainfall
spreading farther south, before ending later tonight.

* The heavy rainfall will likely lead to widespread and
potentially life threatening flash flooding. Several rivers
will likely go into moderate to major flood including the
Illinois River and Lee Creek at Van Buren. Beaver Lake Dam in
northwest Arkansas could begin to release water which would
impact areas downstream.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

If you are in the watch area, keep informed, and be ready for
quick action if flash flooding is observed or if a warning is
issued. Persons living in low lying areas along main-Stem rivers
should monitor the latest forecast and be ready to evacuate to
higher ground.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where water covers the Road
to unknown depths. Take a different Route to reach your
destination or wait until the water recedes. Remember, most flood
related deaths occur in automobiles and flooding is the leading
cause of weather related deaths.

A Flash Flood Watch means rapidly rising water or flooding is
possible within the watch area.
