Areal Flood Watch
Issued: 8:40 PM EDT Sep. 29, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch remains in effect through Friday evening...

The Flood Watch continues for

* a portion of Southeast Michigan... including the following
counties... Genesee... Lapeer... Livingston... Macomb... Oakland...
Shiawassee... St. Clair... Washtenaw and Wayne.

* Through Friday evening.

* A general 2 to 4 inch rainfall occurred from last night through
today with the highest concentration in the urbanized area of
Wayne... Oakland... and Macomb counties. Most of the rain occurred
over a relatively short time period around sunrise this morning
and resulted in considerable urban flooding. This area will
remain very sensitive to renewed flooding after any additional
heavy rainfall that remains possible overnight through Friday.

* Rainfall totals in the 1 to 2 inch range occurred westward
through Livingston and Washtenaw counties. Totals mostly less
than 1 inch occurred along the I-69 corridor between Flint and
Port Huron. These areas will be less sensitive to short term
flooding but will tend to experience more frequent rounds of
heavy rainfall through the night... and especially Friday toward
the I-69 corridor.

* After rounds of light rain showers early in the night... bands of
heavier rain are expected to redevelop. Additional rainfall in
the 1 to 3 inch range remains possible overnight through Friday
afternoon with a trend toward higher amounts north of Metro
Detroit through Flint and Port Huron during Friday. Urban
flooding remains possible. In addition... rapid rises of rain
swollen rivers and creeks is likely.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor forecasts and be alert for possible flood
warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
