Coastal Flood Advisory
Issued: 5:24 AM EST Jan. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Coastal Flood Advisory in effect from 4 am to 8 am EST
Monday...

The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a coastal Flood
Advisory... which is in effect from 4 am to 8 am EST Monday.

* Locations... along the lower New York Harbor and along tidally
affected rivers in northeast New Jersey.

* Tidal departures... 2 to 3 ft above astronomical tides in the
morning.

* Timing... minor coastal flooding around the times of
astronomical high tide.

* Beach erosion impacts... elevated water levels and high surf of 8
to 12 ft surf are expected to cause widespread dune erosion
and localized overwashes along the Atlantic Ocean beachfront of
Queens and Kings counties late tonight into Tuesday.

* Tidal impacts... potential for widespread flooding of vulnerable
shore roads and adjacent properties due to height of storm tide
and wave action. Numerous Road closures may be needed. Isolated
structural damage may be observed along the immediate shoreline.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
