Watches & Warnings

Wind Advisory, High Wind Watch
Issued: 3:42 AM CDT Mar. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Wind Advisory in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 8 PM CDT
this evening...
... High wind watch in effect from Friday morning through Friday
evening...

The National Weather Service in Amarillo has issued a Wind
Advisory... which is in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 8 PM
CDT this evening. A high wind watch has also been issued and is in
effect from Friday morning through Friday evening.

* Timing... from 1 PM this afternoon to 8 PM CDT this evening.

* Winds... south to southwest 35 to 40 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.
The strongest winds will be across the far western Texas
Panhandle.

* Impacts... sudden wind gusts can cause drivers to lose control...
especially in lightweight or high profile vehicles. Strong winds
can cause blowing dust... reducing visibilities... and cause
flying debris. Light outdoor objects could be moved by the
strong winds.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 35 mph are expected. Winds
this strong can make driving difficult... especially for high
profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous
high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph... or gusts of
58 mph or stronger may occur. Continue to monitor the latest
forecasts.

Fire Weather Warning
Issued: 3:52 AM CDT Mar. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Red flag warning in effect from 2 PM this afternoon to 7 PM
CDT this evening for strong winds and low relative humidity for
the far western Texas and Oklahoma panhandles...

The National Weather Service in Amarillo has issued a red flag
warning for strong winds and low relative humidity... which is in
effect from 2 PM this afternoon to 7 PM CDT this evening.

* Affected area... in Oklahoma... Cimarron. In Texas... Dallam...
Hartley... Oldham and Deaf Smith.

* 20 foot winds... southwest 25 to 35 mph with gusts over 45 mph
possible.

* Relative humidity... as low as 12 to 15 percent.

* Timing... 2 PM this afternoon to 7 PM CDT this evening.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now... or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds... low relative humidity... and warm temperatures will
create favorable weather for rapid fire growth and spread. Avoid
activities that promote open flames and Sparks.
