Wind Advisory, High Wind Watch
Issued: 1:23 PM PST Jan. 18, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Wind Advisory remains in effect from 10 PM this evening to
4 am PST Friday...
... High wind watch remains in effect from late Thursday night
through Saturday morning...

* winds... southwest to west 20 to 35 mph with local gusts over 50
mph tonight and Thursday... then 25 to 45 mph with local gusts
over 65 mph Friday afternoon into Saturday morning.

* Timing... tonight through Saturday morning... with strongest
winds Friday and Friday night.

* Location... from the mountain crests east and north to the
deserts... with strongest winds on Desert Mountain slopes and
below passes and canyons.

* Impacts... driving will be dangerous for high-profile vehicles.
Some tree branches or power lines could have damage Friday or
Friday night. Motorists should also be alert for other debris.

* Outlook... winds will gradually decrease Saturday... but strong
winds are expected again late Sunday and Monday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 35 mph are expected. Winds
this strong can make driving difficult... especially for high
profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous
high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph... or gusts of
58 mph or stronger may occur. Continue to monitor the latest
forecasts.

Small Craft Advisory, Gale Watch
Issued: 1:52 PM PST Jan. 18, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Small Craft Advisory remains in effect from 4 am Thursday to
10 am PST Friday...
... Gale watch remains in effect from Friday morning through
Saturday afternoon...

* winds... southwest to west winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts to 25 kt
Thursday... increasing Friday through Saturday to 25 to 30 kt
with gusts to 35 kt.

* Waves/seas... combined seas increasing Thursday to 7 to 12
feet... then increasing further on Friday through Saturday...
possibly as high as 12 to 18 feet.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Small Craft Advisory means that wind speeds of 21 to 33 knots
and combined seas of 10 feet or greater are expected to produce
hazardous wave conditions to small craft. Inexperienced
mariners... especially those operating smaller vessels should
avoid navigating in these conditions.

A gale watch is issued when the risk of gale force winds of 34 to
47 knots has significantly increased... but the specific timing
and/or location is still uncertain. It is intended to provide
additional lead time for mariners who may wish to consider
altering their plans.
