This is growing miles and miles from the nearest human habitation, alongside the highway. No idea what it is---there's nothing else like it anywhere around here!

Thanks, r.a.! We don't have a native wild plum up here that I've ever known of, and the "tame" ones that are planted here have entirely different branches, all heavily forked and tangled, so this is a whole new one on me!

Lovely close-up !
I`d go with the wild plum, too!
We got those in spring, too - in odd places, also !

Thank you, Heidrun! Only thing is the leaves don't match up to plum tree leaves. My friends who took their Minnesota plant book down there said they more closely resemble apples....only thing is none of us have ever seen apples strung out along the branch like those flowers are, with no leaves except at the base....no idea what it is! I'm curious to see what kind of fruit it eventually has on it.

About minnesotamom
minnesotamom Hi! My name is Kathy and I live in northern Minnesota, USA, where the winter temps have dipped down to -60º below zero F. The summers are mild, usually only in the 70ºs but in recent years have been up in the 90ºs---too hot for me. I love being able to travel the world from my office chair, through all your great photos! Thanks to everyone who takes time to look at my pictures! :D free hit countersCreate your own visitor map!
