Ouch! Looks like the winds were ferocious. Very scary when it is unusual in your area. Hope there's some funds available to help this town out!

OHMYGOSH Katy! What a storm. Hope it's over. My son is at school in Seward, and they ended school early so people could get home before the flooding blocked their way.

Thank you for stopping by Gil, Wilma, Gary and Budsgirl. Thankfully, (hopefully) the big blow is now over. Yes, there are agents assessing house-to-house in the village. Hopefully the most critical things will be addressed before winter comes.

Budsgirl I have been hearing about the horrific flooding in Seward! A state of emergency declared, rushing water coursing down the mountains, smashing and tearing out roads, trees...

Myomy, I can see I missed something, not reading the morning paper! Hope no one was hurt; the storm damage to houses and trees was more than enough.

Thanks for your concern Kathy, and as far as I know, no one was hurt. Some pets didn't survive however.

You'd not likely hear about this in the Lower 48, though you might hear about the wild storm in the Anchorage and more populated area.

You're right enough there, Katy; our local paper carries mostly local and area news. To get national/international news anymore, you have to go online. Nice of WUG to offer citizens' first-hand glimpses of what's happening elsewhere; often the first way I learn about something like this.

Agree Kathy, you are so right. Thanks for your insightful comment.

Thank you Julia, we are just fine. My place, some 8 miles away, is completely untouched. I was totally unaware of this until I went to the grocery store and heard the local 'talk.'

Looks a lot like my shack. Except that we don't have storm damage. And my car (S-10) is much older.

Katy, both Mat-Su and the Kenai area, to include Seward, Moose Pass and Cooper Landing have been declared disaster areas.

Blowing again down here today and last I looked 61 degrees.

Craziest stuff I have seen in 47 years.

The weather seems to be all over the place this year, large parts of the US in drought the UK having the wettest summer in around 100 years (honey bees really suffered over here this year) etc. Wonder what autumn & winter have in store for us?
