Actually, you're just a little bit confused... this is a male walking stick (the smaller one) in mating position with the female (the larger one). Looking at the other pictures in the series, you can see that the tip of his abdomen is juxtaposed with hers.

Although my Facebook photo fans liked the baby walking stick story better....
