My Lens are Nikon 70-300, with VR, (vibration resistant), but also mainly has IS (Image Stabilization). That works like Magic. You don't worry about Camera shake. all my Moon shots are just hand held. Except for Moon Eclipses, where I need the tripod for longer exposures.
They do make same Lens equivalent for your Canon, also with VR & IS.
