Retired plow sits in front of these old shacks not far from home . I'd love to know the history of this place . Not much color around so I'm shooting in black / white with a little sepia added .

Abandoned farmsteads make me sad. Family farms are almost nonexistant now. 10 for the photo.

Thanks so much everyone for the comments ! 36Bravo , I TOTALLY agree with you . It's sickening to see the small farms and rural areas drying up . So much history in them - the land , the way of life . ( sigh* )

Wonderful streaming clouds and lovely capture, Tim! 10! I never knew, when I moved to the plains 30 years ago, that there could be such beauty in this barren landscape. Your great images continue to showcase it's subtle charms.

Hope you all have been blessed with moisture, as we have the past couple of months after that long, dry year. Wishing you and your family a happy, healthy 2012!

Tim,  I have to agree with the previous post.  You are so good at this and I think that so many would just pass on by without seeing, much less capturing, the beauty that is there.  A great lesson for me.

About docshovel39
docshovel39 Hello , my name is Tim . I live in the small farming community of Ropesville , Texas with my wife and photo partner Sherry . I got involved with photography because of my older brother Steve - a fantastic photographer who lives outside of Seattle , WA . My favorite work , apart from his , is a terrific book entitled " Ghosts in the Wilderness " by Tony and Eva Worobiec . It captures the remains of small , abandoned rural communities across the Midwest , much of it shot in black and white . I also have become a fan of photographer Jim McGuire . His black and white shots ( nashvilleportraits.com) are amazing . Thank you for your comments and have a GREAT day !
