The first day May is celebrated in Europe as Labor Day although its origin goes back to pagan times. Strangely enough the European Labor Day is based on an incident in Chicago in 1886 during which workers demonstrated to reduce the workday from 12 or 14 hours a day to eight. It ended with an unknown number being killed by the police and corporation thugs.

Although born, reared, and educated in the United States, I have been living in Europe for well over half of my life – primarily in Germany, and the pictures I submit are for the most part from the southern slopes of the Black Forest in the Rhine Valley between Germany and Switzerland.
