==Discussion==
a low pressure system east of Nova Scotia will continue to rapidly
deepen as it tracks towards Newfoundland this evening. The low will
continue to deepen as it passes over eastern Newfoundland tonight and
will remain as a deep low as it moves over the southern Labrador Sea
on Wednesday.
Rain has begun to change over to snow in the north and west and will
spread eastward throughout the night. The heaviest snow will occur
west of the low's track with central and northern regions receiving
close to 25 centimetres while northeastern sections will see 15
centimetres. The winds will strengthen from the west to northwest
overnight with gusts upwards to 110 km/h persisting through
Wednesday. These strong winds combined with the heavy snow will
result in poor visibilities in blowing snow persisting into Wednesday
morning. Conditions will improve on Wednesday as the heavy snow
tapers off, but the winds will continue to gust between 90 to
110 km/h.
A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Hawkes Bay to Gros Morne
National Park for tonight as these regions may receive higher
snowfall amounts than forecast depending on the track of the low.
The approaching low is expected to bring further rainfall amounts of
up to 20 millimetres for southern Newfoundland.
Please refer to the latest public forecasts for further details.
