Little change to Hanna; threat grows from Ike
Tropical Storm Hanna has not changed much, and remains on track to hit North or South Carolina as a tropical storm or Category 1 hurricane Friday night. Hanna has characteristics of a subtropical storm. A subtropical storm tends not to have any heavy thunderstorm activity near its center. Weather Underground Forecast for Friday, September 05, 2008.
Tropical Storm Hanna, currently located over the Bahamas, is expected to move away from the islands on Friday after dumping several inches of rain over the region. The storm will then move to the northwest towards the U.S. East Coast, and has the potential to re-strengthen into a hurricane sometime before or on Friday. Elsewhere in the Atlantic, Hurricane Ike, currently a category one hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale, will be located to the northeast of the Bahamas on Friday. The storm is forecasted strengthen and take a turn to the southwest, bringing it over the Bahamas sometime over the weekend. In the Eastern Pacific, Tropical Depression Karina is expected to continue to move westward away from land and lose its tropical characteristics sometime around Friday. Meanwhile, low pressure will trigger heavy rain and thunderstorms over central Mexico and Central America on Friday. The rest of Mexico could see scattered showers and storms. Parts of the Caribbean Islands can expect to see rain and thunderstorms associated with the outer bands of Tropical Storm Hanna.
The northwest corner of South America can expect to see showers and storms throughout the day on Friday, while a trough extending from Bolivia down to southern Brazil and Uruguay will produce rain over the region. Meanwhile, the southern half of the continent will remain mostly dry as high pressure will dominate the area, although precipitation associated with a front is expected to move onshore over the southern coast of Chile on Friday.

Did you know that...
Arizona suffered another disaster due to nature today in 1975. Very strong winds caused dust to blow across portions of Interstate 10 which aided in a 22 car pileup. Two people were killed and fourteen were injured.
