Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday, January 05, 2010.
A lingering cold front will bring another wet day to Latin America and the Caribbean Sea on Tuesday. A low pressure system spinning off shore of the East Coast of the US will create a front that will extend down the coast and into the region. The front will continue pushing southeastward throughout the day and kick up scattered showers as it stretches over the Greater Antilles and moves into the Lesser Antilles, while also extending over the Caribbean Sea into Central America. Thus, also expect scattered showers to develop over Honduras and Nicaragua. While high pressure builds in behind this system, onshore flow will persist along the western shore of the Gulf. Scattered showers are anticipated over eastern Mexico and the Yucatan Peninsula. Periods of heavy showers and thunderstorms may develop over southern Mexico and Guatemala. Meanwhile, a small area of low pressure continues spinning over Panama, triggering light coastal rains on Tuesday.
In South America, the northern countries will remain mostly dry, while onshore flow over the west persists. Thus, expect scattered showers and thunderstorms over Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. To the south, low pressure will hover over Brazil and allow for scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue over most of the country. Thus, Sao Paulo will see scattered showers and thunderstorms with highs in the mid-80s(F). However, higher pressure over Chile and Argentina will allow for pleasant weather with warm and sunny conditions on Tuesday. Santiago will see plenty of sunshine with highs near 80(F)/ 26(C) as higher pressure covers the region.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) announced today that beginning with the 2010 hurricane season, their hurricane and tropical storm watches and warnings for the U.S. coast will be extended in time by an additional 12 hours. Warnings will now be issued 36 hours in advance instead of 24 hours, and watches will be issued 48 hours in advance, instead of 36 hours. The increase in lead time for watches and warnings has been made possible by the tremendous improvement in
