Weather Summary

Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, May 11, 2008. The Caribbean Sea will be generally void of any significant shower and thunderstorm development Sunday. The most notable showers will develop along the coast of Central America from Nicaragua to Panama. More significant showers will develop on the Pacific coast of these countries.

The tail end of a cold front will scrape by the Bahamas and instigate scattered areas of showers, while a few isolated thunderstorms may pop up over Hispaniola. This precipitation will diminish in the afternoon or evening as the front moves out of the area.

The Gulf of Mexico will remain dry.

For South America, a high pressure system will slide through Uruguay and into the Atlantic Ocean. Some isolated showers are possible in the Sao Paulo region, but the rest of the east coast of the continent south of Brazil will remain dry.

Meanwhile, a low pressure system will slam into Chile and produce precipitation in the southern tip of the country.

Typical tropical moisture will produce showers and thunderstorms through the northern half of the continent.

Rio De Janeiro will rise into the mid-60s(F)/upper 10s(C), while Buenos Aires will see temperatures in the mid-60s(F)/upper 10s(C). Santiago, Chile will rise into the lower 70s(F)/lower 20s(C).

Damage photos I saw from these towns showed buildings swept clean from their foundations, indicative of at least EF-4 damage, and possibly EF-5. Yesterday's deaths brings the 2008 U.S. tornado death toll up to 96--the most tornado fatalities since 1998, when 130 people died. With at le...
