Weather Summary

Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday, July 19, 2008.

Typhoon Kalmaegi has greatly strengthened, and is now set to move over Taiwan early Friday morning, and reach eastern China on Saturday morning. This storm will bring very heavy rain and destructive winds to both Taiwan and eastern China, and flooding will be a major threat.

A weak trough located over northeastern China and southeastern Russia will continue to move warm, moist air up to that region, triggering heavy rain and storms throughout the day on Saturday. The Korean Peninsula and southern Japan can expect to see rainfall from this trough as well. Flooding is possible across these regions due to the constant rainfall. Meanwhile, low pressure will produce clouds and scattered showers across Mongolia and up into central Russia. Central China will see mostly clouds, while eastern Russia and the Kamchatka Peninsula will remain mostly dry due to high pressure, except for possibly a few clouds. Southeast Asia can expect the seasonable heavy rain and thunderstorms, while the Middle East will see the usual dry and hot conditions.

Temperatures across the continent will range in the mid- to upper 20s up to the mid-30s, with teens in parts of Mongolia and northeast China, and the mid- to upper 40s across the Middle East and western India.

In Australia, a cold front will move across the central part of the continent and the south-central coastline on Saturday, producing light to moderate rain along the southern coast and a few showers in the Central Australia. The rest of the continent will be mostly clear on Saturday due to high pressure.

Temperatures across Australia will range in the mid-30s in the northern part of the continent down to single digits to the south.
