Through the late evening hours...showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop and expand in coverage as they move into and across the western and central South Plains and southwest Texas Panhandle. The greatest threat with this activity will be locally heavy rainfall that could result in street flooding and flooding of low lying and poor drainage area. In addition...gusty winds and cloud to ground lightning will be possible with the stronger storms. Motorists should be alert for ponding of water on roadways.

... Flash Flood Watch in effect through Tuesday morning...

The National Weather Service in Lubbock has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of northwest Texas and the
Panhandle of Texas... including the following areas... in
northwest Texas... Childress... Cottle... Crosby... Dickens...
Floyd... Hale... Hockley... King... Lamb... Lubbock and Motley. In
the Panhandle of Texas... Briscoe... Castro... Hall and Swisher.

* Through Tuesday morning

* widespread thunderstorms capable of producing very heavy
rainfall rates will develop and spread east across the South
Plains... rolling plains and southern Panhandle through tonight.
A frontal boundary moving into the area will encourage
redevelopment with more than one round of slow moving
thunderstorms possible.

* Generally 1.5 to 3 inches of rainfall can be expected by Tuesday
morning however locally higher amounts in excess of 4 inches
are possible. Rainfall rates may exceed 2 inches per hour at
times.

to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
