Areal Flood Warning
Statement as of 2:48 PM EST en Marzo 05, 2015

... A Flood Warning for rain and snow melt remains in effect until
545 PM EST Thursday for Tazewell... Summers... Greenbrier... Mercer and
Monroe counties...

At 237 PM EST... stream gages across the warned area were showing
falling stages but numerous creeks and streams remain above flood
stage and some may remain above into tonight.

There are numerous small streams and creeks that are either in
flood... or experiencing high water levels. Here are some of the
larger ones...

On the Clinch River in Tazewell County... minor flooding continues
with the river gage near Richlands at 10.1 feet and falling. Flood
stage is 10 feet. The river will fall to below flood stage in
the next hour or so.

On the Bluestone river in Mercer County... moderate flooding
continues with the latest gage reading for the river at Spanishburg
at 16.2 feet just before 2 PM. Moderate flood stage is 15 feet.
Stages will continue to fall through the rest of the day but
extensive lowland flooding will continue along much of the river and
significant portions of Route 19 will likely remain closed near
Spanishburg.

Indian Creek near Red Sulphur Springs in Monroe County has dropped
below moderate flood stage. At 200 PM... the stream level was around
9.4 feet and falling rapidly. Flood stage is 8 feet. Lowland
flooding is likely and some roads may be affected including County
Road 23.

The Meadow river in western Greenbrier County is also running very
high per the newly established stream gage near Hines. The stage was
10.8 feet at 815 am and still rising... but the gage has ceased
reporting since that time.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams... as well as farm and country roads. Do not
attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes.

When it is safe to do so... please send your reports of flooding...
including mudslides or Road closures... to the National Weather
Service by calling toll free at 1... 8 6 6... 2 1 5... 4 3 2 4. Reports
