Rob: The cases that were collected were intact and empty. All had at least one tiny round hole about 3/16 inches in diameter. I think some predator (octopus?) must bore into the case and digest the embryos. I found one large case that was separated along the seams in the (upper?) face which might have meant a successful emergence.
One of our most interesting dives was out of Sihanoukville, Cambodia. Our Diving instructor was quite proud that this would be his 36th dive. Having helped set up one of the first diving clubs in B.C. in the 1960s I was not reassured.
We had asked for an "easy entry refresher" dive since both Tloml and I had been a few years without diving.
Easy entry consisted of stepping off the bow of a 40' fishboat into 1 knot current in unfamiliar gear. Since I had no where near enough weights I spent most of the time kicking hard to get down but what I did see made me want to go back with someone who knew what they were up to.

Afternoon Shore:
I'm happy that I got the picture as soon as I did because this material blackens as it dries out. From the Wiki articles I found it is made of a protein - chiton, I think.
If you do figure out "Where the water got in" please post the answer. I've been looking for that spot most of my building career.

Once I get my head back here (Joan Baez said she only traveled by train 'cause she heard our souls can only keep up to about 40 mph and I was up around 110 Kmph for some hours the last few days) I will have somat to say on your blog. Lots goin' on

Tloml is watching Curling on CBC so I've got some minutes here:
You are not sure exactly what "Curling" is?
First you need a long sheet of flat ice where you mark out a target circle. Make yourself about 8 huge stones with handles for each contending team. Get a broom.
One of the team takes a rock and sends it down the ice somehow (in turn and out turn are for later) and a couple of the other team members sweep with their brooms in front of the moving rock. The other person on the four person team has been down at the target end holding another broom at just the correct position so that if the rock thrower gets the "Line", "Weight" and in turn/out turn stuff down everybody hollers:
Sweep! "HARD! HARD! HARD!" and repeats if nesessary even louder. It is more or less a dart game in only two dimensions - the closer your stone ends up to the "Bull's Eye" the better.

I did get to ride the "Flying Cat" ferry once or twice and I thought the boat was very modern. These ships were scrapped rather than rejigged partly for political reasons but they did have problems with the jet drives gobbling up floating logs and since they were supposed to go a bit faster than the old ferries they threw an huge wake. The next generation of ferries also have fuel efficiency and noise problems and in my opinion their interior design is pretty plain.
