While taking pictures of lightning, it is obvious that the focus on the camera should be on infinity. But I only own the 18-55 kit lens with no focus gauge to tell me if im on infinity or not. The manual focus on the 18-55mm is a ring at the front of the lens that i rotate to change focus yet in the dark or even at twilight i can not focus on anything. Now what i do is i look for a plane passing by or by just watching the lightning through my view finder and trying to focus on it (which is very difficult). I have thought about trying a new technique. I wonder if it would be possible to engage manual focus on my camera point my camera up at the moon if its out, then focus for it and then point the camera back at the storm and set my Fstop to a higher number like F11 to F16 so i have more depth of field. Would this work?!?!? Please Comment.
