We are enjoying the expat life in Uruguay with our almost-two-year-old daughter. I imagine that that our lifestyle will be second nature for her, although a very different experience for us.
One of the main differences right now for us is reversed seasons in the Southern Hemisphere. We are seeing that ads are coming out in the USA for "End of Summer/Back to School" sales. It seems so odd that it is winter here and nearly spring, where the northern half of this world is enjoying summer/almost fall.

Winter is upon us in the Southern Hemisphere. Nights are cool, around 35-40 degrees F with days in the 50's. Sounds great except that houses are not insulated here like they are in the USA or other areas I've visited, and many (like ours) do not have central heat. It is commonly a chilly and damp 60 degrees in the house. We cook with propane, which puts off more water vapor so it doesn't help much. Our saving grace is a wood burning fireplace in the living room. ...

We arrived here at the end of March, early enough to still have snow on the ground in our native Minneapolis, MN, and to arrive here in Montevideo, Uruguay to gorgeous summer weather. That summer weather lasted about 8 weeks and now we are enjoying the cool, crisp early winter days, with chilly nights. We are a young expat family living in Montevideo, Uruguay. We blog to share our experiences setting up a life abroad with a toddler and two dogs. We moved for the adventure and experience, not due to a corporate relocation or new job assignment.
