	Winter in Montevideo, Uruguay

We arrived here at the end of March, early enough to still have snow on the ground in our native Minneapolis, MN, and to arrive here in Montevideo, Uruguay to gorgeous summer weather.

That summer weather lasted about 8 weeks and now we are enjoying the cool, crisp early winter days, with chilly nights. Not the best time to get acquainted with the city but it is still beautiful here...crunchy leaves on the ground and the smell of burning fire wood in the air. It seems so strange that this is nearly July.

July in Minnesota is hot, humid and with lots of mosquitoes. Opposite seasons will seem surreal for a while, I am sure. I am told December and January here are amazing. Warm, everyone is outside and the beaches are packed. We can't wait to experience it!

Our ideal situation would be to visit family and friends back in MN during one of the seasonal extremes. This year will probably be December for our first Christmas living abroad. I know, why leave the best time in Uruguay to go back to MN in the middle of winter? Family, a 2nd birthday party and Christmas the way we've always known it: cold, snowy and surrounded by lots of family.

We visited Montevideo on our way back from Antarctica May 5, 2008. Rainy, rainy day! Saw the stagecoach and the cattle statues, and the legislature---and the independence square with that strange, yet cool bulbous art deco building from 1928.

Antarctica, how cool! That is the last continent that my husband needs to visit to get all of them!! I hope you enjoyed the adventure! A least May showers in Montevideo are a little warmer. Today is cool, gray and rainy with chances of the same for the next two days. Everyone is bundled like it is 0 degrees F. Not even close!! But it is that damp cold...
