Jekyll Island: WUmeet - Georgia Sea Turtle Center
On Monday, Oct 1, my wife, granddaughter and I visited the newly opened (June 16, 2007), Georgia Sea Turtle Center on Jekyll Island.
I would have visited the GSTC anyway, but was drawn to it sooner, due to one of the Volunteers is WUmember, Willow13 (Dorothy).
Also visiting was WUmember Sunset Sailor (Laura). Laura arrived before us and visited with Dorothy until we arrived. Unfortunately, I did not get a photo of Laura and Dorothy and I at the GSTC. ": (
The three of us enjoyed a thorough interchange of pleasantries all around and many exchanges of background and other interesting converstaionals.
We toured the facility
and thoroughly enjoyed the information and visual treats the GSTC have to offer.
In the facility we met Dylan - a nine year old 'straggler' that is scheduled for release into the wild next year. A very big 9 year old!
We also met the baby terrapins in their playground, a water aquaria container. The numbers on the shells allow their caretakers to identify individuals. They are quite beckoning, but due to the potential for pathogens by handling, we were not allowed to touch any of the turtles. My granddaughter, Brooklyn, was more than a bit disappointed! She thought they were sooooo, cute.

The entry way into the GSTC is quite nice. Bricks are sold and etched with info on the donor and set in the walk. 100% of such donations go into the Center.
We (Willow13, Sunset Sailor and me (les O'fieldstream) had a lot of fun getting to know each other. Laura and I went on to visit the northshore of Jekyll... to 'shoot' the drift wood beack! Great spot. Photos to come along shortly.
But before we left, my wife took a photo of Willow13, me and my granddaughter, Booklyn.
For now ... do enjoy these. See y'all on the flipside.
