I pay about 12.5 cents per kwh. How do you get by so cheap?
Jesse
I probably need to look at my bill. I went to a dated map of state averages to get $.08 KwH.
Hey code! Time to go to OOH!
I think I'm getting a solar attic fan next.
I was looking at those this weekend. I think the manufacturer was Broan. Not sure how it would work as my fans/vents are on the north side of my house.
I tried those new spiral tube light bulbs. for the front porch and other places for low light needs they work..
but I just cannot put them in a lamp that I am trying to "read" from.. just does not put out enough light for me.
I bought up a few 100W and 75W blubs to use for reading...
Our last electrical bill was $138, the lowest it has been in years!!!
we usually get it a little low in Jan or Feb because normally the weather is mild and can turn off AC
but last year we used the heater a lot and we used it alot in Dec and Jan this past winter..
but February was perfect..
warm enough not to need heater often and cool enough not to need a/c!
but in the summer months.. a different story!
Hi Gamma, Try 5200K (Daylight) bulbs. Makes a difference for reading.
Jesse,
I called AL. Power today. There are different rates for time of year, usage etc., but 0.08 is about average. Remember though that there is a 14.50 fee from them regardless of use plus tax.....
That must be a BIG night light!!!!
I divide the total price by kwh used. This gives me actual kwh cost, which includes all other charges. It gives me a better idea about cost changes when I change something, such as adding more insulation.
Jesse
I bought one, I think, to use in my office --- could not see, not enough light. : (
But if there is a problem with Mercury & disposal are we going in the right direction?
Someone smarter than I will have to answer that question... : )
No Jesse, using all other cost are fixed cost. Well maybe not tax. But you must take the fixed (14.50 in my case) off to get actual savings. If not your numbers will be skewed with factors you can not alter.
The rate you pay AP plus non fixed tax is your rate per kwh.
either way it really dosnt matter for this example (bulbs on porch), they save money.
Yes, CFL's do contain trace amounts of mercury. I will dispose of mine the same way I would mercury tainted fish bones, garbage can. Next thing we know they will be outlawed
The most efficient and environmentally friendly bulb is LED. But they are way too expensive right now.Though I am making one! But its DC voltage....I Love Flounder and will use for a Flounder lamp.....
