There are multiple highlights during every visit to Quiet Valley Farm (QVF). Certainly the big red barn (BRB) is one of them -----> 1

When I visited QVF March 24, 2012, it was "Spring Clean-Up Day" - which even the critters hurried to get to -----> 3

...or so I imagined -----> 4

There was also evidence of -human- participation in Spring Clean-Up at QVF -----> 5

For example, Gary was manning the power washer, thoroughly dousing wheelbarrows -----> 6

....and a rope machine -----> 7

.....and picnic table benches -----> 8

.....and wheelbarrows -----> 9

Later, Rich aimed the power washer at a wagon -----> 10

Not just the back of the wagon (above); and the front of front the wagon (below) -----> 11

But also all points in-between -----> 12

Allen was critter-comber and leaf-blower extraordinaire -----> 13

David was rake-master -----> 14

Suzanne was carriage-polisher -----> 15

...assisted by Florence ------> 16

At this point I begin hallucinating - imagining that the critters were participating in the clean-up, too -----> 17

.....that the sheep were scouring the meadow ---> 18

.....that Janie was cleaning up the pasture -----> 19

.....that the chickens were... -----> 20

.....well... -----> 21

.....everywhere -----> 22

Even Schultz, the pig, tidied up a bit -----> 23

But after all, he's a pig, so his tidying was brief -----> 24

Some critters wanted very much to participate in Spring Clean-Up -----> 25

.....but others of their kind (goats) seemed to realize that their joining in was just not going to be allowed -----> 26

Well...at least this one managed a smile for the camera -----> 27

How about showing some teeth with that smile? -----> 28

No! Not the just left-side teeth (above); or the right-side teeth (below) -----> 29

That's it! Toothy on -BOTH- sides! -----> 30

One of the barn cats, Dutchess, walked by - apparently taking a break -----> 31

But I don't think that Duke ever ceased his vigilant performance of -----> 32

.....pest control -----> 33

Do you think that he stuck his tongue out at me because he thought that I was being a pest? -----> 34

One of the Toulouse geese aggressively engaged in cleaning up -----> 35

.....as did Thomasina turkey -----> 36

.....who afforded this close-up view of doing a thorough job -----> 37

Tom, her "friend", didn't do much cleaning up -----> 38

.....but he was an efficient supervisor, making sure that Thomasina kept working and that she was not "bothered" by onlookers -----> 39

Frankly, I think that Thomasina has a crush on Tom...and it's plain to see why. He's so handsome -----> 40

And Tom seems to have a liking for Thomasina's boundless beauty (?), too -----> 41

The goose, however, can't imagine what they see in each other -----> 42

I did not actually see the humans who were actively sprucing up the one-room schoolhouse next to Quiet Valley Farm -----> 43

.....but evidence of their presence was both audible and visible -----> 44

When Janie saw me and my camera, she and her other equine friends headed in my direction -----> 45

After talking it over with Lori -----> 46

.....it was decided that Lori would have her picture taken first -----> 47

Lori was photographed both "wideways" (above) and "tallways" (below) -----> 48

.....then together with Janie -----> 49

Rather than a solo pose from Janie -----> 50

She was joined by her pals, Lori, left, and Sherri, center, for this "group" photo -----> 51

Perhaps, however, they thought that I was going to comb them - which they like -----> 52

.....because although I was leaving, they stuck around -----> 53

While I'm here at QVF, let's see if there's anything else that I can take pictures of. Well...right there is the northwest side of the farmhouse -----> 54

.....on the opposite side of which is the granddaddy house (left) and well (right foreground) -----> 55

That thing overhead - a "sweep" - holds and lowers a bucket into the well...then raises it when it's full of water -----> 56

A wide-angle lens was used for the picture below, so that the scene would include the springhouse (right) -----> 57

This four-wheeled, horse-drawn buggy (which I am most likely to be loaded into) is a manure-spreader -----> 58

The ice-house at Quiet Valley Farm was empty after a warm winter, and also became "photo fodder" -----> 59

Besides the BRB, there are other barn-type structures at QVF, too, such as this "open front" model -----> 60

And near every barn, there's usually a fence -----> 61

Hark! Do I hear water dripping? -----> 62

This is spring water which constantly trickles because of being gravity-induced -----> 63

To conclude this visit to QVF, my thoughts turned from "Spring Clean-Up" to "Farm Animal Frolic", details of which can be learned by copying, pasting & going to this address ----->

After looking at many of the critters... -----> 64

I wondered, "Are you pregnant?" -----> 65

I think -she- is -----> 66

All she did during the entirety of my visit -----> 67

.....was stare out her picture window -----> 68

.....and sleep -----> 69

Howzabout a few more pictures of that big red barn? -----> 70

.....from farther... -----> 71

.....and farther away -----> 72

...until finally heading in another direction, thankful to have entered the gates of Quiet Valley Farm -----> 73

This blog is dedicated to the fond memories of Sherri, who entered horse heaven just a few days after Spring Clean-Up.
This is my 45th photo/blog, 3 of which have pertained to Quiet Valley Farm. Those 3 blogs can be viewed by copying, pasting and going to these addresses ----->
