What was that song? It never rains in California, it pours? Well, we're hoping for the 2nd part of that verse to happen here.

The current forecast is saying we have a 25% chance of rain around 3:00 PM today, and a 30% chance around 8:00 PM tonight. I'll take both. Heck, I'll take either or at this point!

I now have 4 HUGE piles of leaves on my dead "lawn" and a few bags of leaves for good measure. The chances of rain yesterday, last night and this morning never materialized. I'm beginning to look at these percentages as a cruel hoax, or maybe they are just so much wishful thinking.

My trip to the post office today resulted in a nice little warning from Tri-County Water District. Because of the drought, outdoor watering is no longer allowed. If you get caught irrigating or watering your yard, it will be a $200 fine for the first offence, and your water will be shut off for the second offence. These guys apparently mean business!

So, remember those tips I told you would be forthcoming? Now seems like a good time.

I'll give you a couple of easy ones for now. Did you know that one of the quickest ways to cut down on not only water, but also power usage is something you can easily start today.

From now on, only run your dishwasher and clothes washing machine when they are full. No more small loads, or extra time on the load. If you check your machines, they probably have different cycles like heavy, normal, light. Choose the "light" setting for both machines. You'll use less water AND less electricity that way.

Okay, I think I'm going to go do a rain dance now... see if I can get something stirred up so the 3:00 pm showers don't pass us by!

Stay cool!

I see a niche, and I try to fill it. I'm just wired that way. I noticed there is no wunderground blog for the Russellville, AR area, so now there will be. I probably don't need to tell you that it has been hotter and dryer than usual. As of today, we have gone 3 weeks without rain, if you want to count the 0.09 inches we got 3 weeks ago as rain. So, just how hot and dry has it been? Let's take a look at historical averages for high temperatures in Russellville. Jan=...
