By my estimation we've already gotten 3 feet of snow here on the eastern plains and all but the last 10" of that fell during late autumn. We would have had much more had the 0.70" of rain we got on Wednesday come as snow instead. I've had it and we're five days into winter. Where's that warming?

As someone told me a few years ago, he was going to strap his snow shovel on the front of his truck and head south. When the people asked him what that was, he figured he'd gone far enough! Sounds like a good plan to me.

With the hail storm of Saturday night with up to 1 inch hail and 60-70 MPH winds, the anemometer of my weather station lost two cups. As a result it will not be recording wind speed until I get a replacment unit. Fortunately, I suffered no other damage aside from leaves and walnuts on the ground.

By any stretch of the imagination, -4 (yesterday's low) and -1 (this morning's low) is cold. In fact, this morning Anchorage, AK was 15 degrees warmer than here!On the plus side, we were quite a bit warmer than Chadron, NE at -24 (breaking the date record of -13 set in 1979) or Valentine, NE at -27 (breaking the date record of -23 set in 1936).Brrrrrr!I'm more than ready for spring.

Treeman's photo sure looks familiar as I'm involved in a family cow-calf operation and the chores go on regardless of the weather. Fortunately, cow-calf is a lot less work than running a dairy was!

Since WU introduced the Rapid Fire, I decided to poke around in my custom scripts and see if a quicker upload interval was feasable. Since it's been well over a year since I mucked around with them I had to get familiar all over again. It was as simple as setting the cron interval to upload every minute (this is the finest resolution I think I can achieve with cron). My upload machine is running Debian Linux and the scripts are in Perl. One polls the Ultimeter 200...
