2nd Warmest Winter on Record - and it's FEBRUARY
I think I will "borrow" an image of a robin from Puget because my sister saw the first robin in our neighborhood this past week. She has a goldfish pond in her backyard that she keeps from freezing each winter. 5 robins were bathing in it on Saturday morning!
The robins along with the maple syrup collection buckets on our street certainly signal the first steps of spring!

Puget: Thanks for the great image! Let me know if you prefer I take it down!

Hope you have a great week....
I saw your comment in my blog. I had not said anything in my own blog, so your comment might have started a few eyebrows to raise! hehehe
I have used it each day for three days, walking a mile in about 16/17 minutes. I shall build up my stamina slowly, but steadily... because unlike you I haven't walked any distance for years! I live in a sprawling city, which relies on transport to get you anywhere. The nearest supermarket is five minutes away in a car, but would take me nearly an hour to walk, as it is almost three miles......
I keep hearing about the health benefits of walking - I think you are going to be very pleased with your progress! I don't walk that fast, but I know if I had to run I would just hate it so walking is definitely the sport for me!
Sorry if I let the "cat out of the bag!" We are all friends.
A colleague of mine had a terrible accident on her way to school yesterday when she hit a 7th grade student. They were both on their way to school at 7AM (still dark outside.) The teacher was driving and the young girl was crossing the street - not in the crosswalk, but between the cars near the light. The 7th grader is in serious condition. Such a tragic accident for everyone involved.
It is amazing to see how fast life can change.
On another note, I am so sorry to read about the teacher/student accident! Yes, life often comes at us so fast and we don't have time to blink. I will pray for all involved for recovery in so many ways.
Years ago I was a passenger in a car that was following the school secretary on our way to school. A young 7 year old ran out between two parked cars and straight into the car being driven by the school secretary. I can still remember seeing this child fly up..... it was awful, but luckily she recovered from her injuries.
Children and parked cars - not good:(
Hope you have a pleasant weekend, we are expecting more freezing rain!
An inch of snow here over night and temperatures in the 10F range are making for a cold morning. The sun peaks out once in awhile, but I miss the mild temperatures and clear skies we had last weekend. It is still winter, I guess!
Whatever you do, I hope the day's a delight!
(And I do hope recovery goes well for the little girl. Life can change so quickly - as we know, and children often don't.)
Have you heard of the new Common Core Standards for the Nation? Part of our Staff Development Day (yesterday) was spent looking at the new standards and how we can begin to integrate them into K next year, 1st the following with everyone on board the year after that. It sure would be nice to all be following the same curriculum, so a lot more sharing will go on!
How awful about the student! What a very stressful situation for everyone involved. A very similar thing happened to my mom eons ago. Three boys were skateboarding and while two turned onto the sidewalk, the 3rd went right out into the street. My mom saw them and had slowed to practically a crawl, but she was very, very stressed out by the whole thing. The boy was OK.
To answer Shores question - we still do Valentine's exchanges at our school. Kids were a little nutso on Tuesday, but we all survived!
Our daughter arrives on Friday night for a two week visit. We haven't seen her since last July, so lots of family events are planned. Can't wait to be together once again. She will travel from here to meet her husband in Florida and then they will return to Chile for the rest of 2012.
Catch her blog "Postcards from Amanda" at Word Press.

I'm hoping for a day off school, but I really could live without the snow. I went for a nice, brisk walk today and I am hoping I can do it again tomorrow! The snow will not last with high temperatures above freezing forecast for the upcoming week.
Sounds like you will welcome your daughter back to some good ol' fashioned Michigan winter weather! What is your daughter doing in Chile, if I may ask?
Enjoy the time together, as I know you will!
I know how much you are looking forward to your daughters visit:)
I hope the snow doesn't hold things up and delay her arrival. Have a wonderful weekend :)
You are so right about the "fog-gone" ... the song going through my head at the moment is, " I can see clearly now..." !
I HOPE the weekend goes as planned:)
Amanda will be here for two weeks and then she is meeting her husband in Orlando. They will travel back to Chile from Florida together. He is working as a visiting professor at a university there trying to build some experience while he completes his PhD in Mining. As we all learned from watching the trapped Chilean miners, if you love mining then it seems that Chile is the place to be.
The two of us plan to have a wonderful time together over the next few weeks. Tomorrow we will begin by having the whole family over for my Dad's 81st Birthday party. Fun!
My daughter's wedding is Sept. 1, so we have time left, but we are making progress, one step at a time. We have the bridesmaids dresses ordered now (no shoes yet) and we have the wedding dress in our house (also no shoes), but it still needs some alteration later. We also have a photographer and a few other odds and ends done. Currently I am pondering invitation styles and would like to choose something before too long. Any wedding tips would be welcome!
Well, my daughter is also currently 22, but just a few days after the wedding she will turn 23, and the same is true for the groom. She is currently in nursing school and after this year she has one more year to go to finish that up, after already finishing an English degree, so that will give her five years in university total, the last one as a married student. Her fiance is graduating this spring, but then he will spend next year working, and also working on his applications for med school, so they have a lot ahead of them.
And, interestingly, our brother-in-law is also a mining engineer. They have lived around the world, most notably Brazil, Indonesia, and Canada, but are back in America now. And our nephew is now working for a world-wide mining company, but on the chemical side of things.
Did you get much snow, or did if come and go quite quickly ?
Enjoy yourselves!
Wishing you "white rabbits, white rabbits, white rabbits and a very happy month of March"
Yes, my engineer husband is a great guy! I can see that yours is too!
I admire your ability to teach computer skills to kids! What grade levels? Computer skills are not my strength - I just get by with it and appreciate people like you. I need my engineer; and my kids!!
So are you back to being on your own again - I bet you miss her company.
Hope all is well - :)
If I have heard correctly, you had a very mild winter and spring...
except those horrible tornadoes this week.
hope you and yours did not recieve damage from those storms.
Happy St Patti's Day to YOU!
