Ad Zombies, Robo-Trolls, purveyors of poorly translated plagerisms with questionable links to questionable products. I've noticed many folks in WUville are getting tired of these robo-blogs.
Let's take 'em out. If you have a good virus protection program on your computer, this is important because a lot of these come loaded with bad things. How about a bunch of us going through these and clicking the "!" button. Perhaps this will get the new weatherchannel admin to take these out of the blogs.
Be sure not to click on any of the links.
Speaking of advertising, all the fun web sites that you go to, including this one are usually supported by the annoying ads. In fairness, to pay dues, when coming to the blogs try to click on one "mainstream" ad everytime. You don't have to read it. They get their revenue through clicks. Don't click on cheap looking ads for product you never heard of. These can have malware. Only click mainstream stuff.
This will help ensure that our blogs stay here because the soul sucking corporate giant is making money on them....if they don't, well you know what happens then.
Some fun with the "ad generators". They pick out key words and tailor adds to them. Just for grins we should have an "Add Zombie Day".
Type several times in your blog; Zombies, living dead, gothic, survival and see what kind of adds turn up. If a lot of blogs do this the results should be hilarious.

If your browser is Firefox, I highly recommend the add-on Adblock Plus 2.1.2. It eliminates all ads from all sites, including WU. I was skeptical until I downloaded it and now I wished I done it a long time ago!

I use ad block and have for a year or so..Love it..
They're "back-linking", trying to drive up their SEO rating by inserting links to their website in other pages. That's why the gibberish doesn't matter. It's the links that count. Inserting backlinks into a high-quality site (i.e. one with high traffic) is best. That's why WU is such a target.
In addition, there are services that will do backlinking for content-poor, lazy webmasters. You can spot services working over the WU pages when multiple handles show up with only a letter or two's difference in their names.

As for getting WU to take them down - I wouldn't count on there being much interest. From my perspective, the sudden surge in backlinkers is an indication that WU has STOPPED doing any monitoring, and it may be a first sign of deletion or significant changes in the blog page.
No DO NOT click on the ads..click on the little red ! at the top of the blog page..you could get maleware if you click on the ads..
I have two forums going on here
1 is to get rid of the robo-blogs because besides taking up blog space they are often filled with viruses and malware for anyone that clicks on the links.
The "robo" blogs are the ones that don't make much sense, like someone with small grasp of english is writing them. Their links can be hostile.
With the new change of management it seems admin is allowing these. Only by multiple people clicking the "!" will admin possibly take these out.

2nd forum is like what Shore says; the new managment does not care right now.
This could mean the blogs are not making money for them so they get no resources and could perhaps go away.
The way to save our blogs is to have them make money for the new management.
Websites make money by having lots of advertising. Everytime someone clicks on legitimate ads, the website you are visiting, like WU, gets money from the advertisers. The mostly legitimate adds are not blogs or links, they are the picture type adds found on the side bars of our blogs and throughout the website.
Like the robo-blogs, not all the "legitimate" advertising is safe to click on. Only click on ones that advertise mainstream products and brands you are familiar with. This gives our new owners money and makes them happy to keep WU blogs.
I know it's a pain, but to "pay your way" and keep the blogs up, click on legitimate adds. You don't have to read them, just navigate back here after you click.
So two things, #1 get rid of bad roboblogs/spam that can be harmful.
#2 Make the new owners care about keeping the blogs maintained and up by helping them make money by clicking on legit adds.
The zombie thing is just fun and silliness. The google ad scanner looks for key words or nouns used often and tailors the adds to those words. If you write Zombie, undead etc quite a few times in quite a few blogs, the adds they will start sending will be hilarious.
Okay, so that was three things.

I haven't sprung for membership on Photobucket or Food.com because I don't use them all that much. I do use WU almost daily. Besides, it's really cheap compared with other sites and IMO it offers so much more.

You can add anyone to your favorite blog list by clicking on the star that is next to their picture or name on the right hand side.
Am I the only one that uses this feature? I always hear of people saying they saved someone's blog from dropping off the bottom of the page, but none of my favorites ever drop off a page, because my page isn't that long!

Karen - I do the same, hardy ever go to the main blogs, as I use 'my favourites'. I am a fully paid up member of WU and of Flickr, the two sites I use the most.
On a 13 inch widescreen laptop, if I had ads along the top and sides I would never have room for the main action in the middle!
PS I am also a fully paid up member of Sadielady and of my "Halloween nom-de-plume", which no one has yet guessed! lol

Hi Prose, I go back and forth on whether or not to get the membership just to avoid the ads. Then again it's an election year so I've been clicking like crazy on the oppositions ads. They usually have a base charge and then pay per click.
