TT - its about time we finally got some 90 degree days. the last few years they have certainly been absent. I have a pool and really enjoy a good 90 degree day in the sun. I hope it lasts into some part of August. I know my warm vegetables plants are enjoying the hot days.

another beautiful morning after a beautiful day.
yesterday's high was 78F
today's low is 51F

like pittsburgh said....almost feels like a few days in September. you have to love this weather. a nice break from the heat.

this is my kind of summer....hot to this and then hot. i don't mind it being a bit dry, less time spent cutting the grass, just as long as the farmers get a splash every so often.

Hope everyone up to my north is taking the heat well! As you can well imagine it's been VERY hot down here, upper 90Fs and low 100Fs are the norm, though lately it's only been in the low 80Fs and I tell ya we're enjoying every minute of it! Back to reality next week though, UGH! :/

Orig...this is nice. But it will end...and badly yet again. Well, we all talked last summer on how the following winter could be big. Well, it was. During that winter I talked about a gut feeling about how the summer would be brutal. Not exactly a guess --- for every time we have a brutal winter we have a brutal summer down here (every 6-7 years).

Yuck...........

I heard that after the winters of 1976-1977 and 1977-1978 the summers were brutal too. I think the only way to get substantial rain is having a tropical system come up the coast. Remember Floyd back in 1999 when we had a harsh summer?

Yeah, I have a love/hate relationship with 90 days. Philly hasn't matched the 1971-2000 avg of 25.7 days of 90 since 2006, but was near that number in 2007 & 2008.

2010: 17 (so far)
2009: 15
2008: 23
2007: 24
2006: 27

Locally, it was an all time record warm June at Philadelphia and Atlantic City. Trenton NJ missed the warmest by 0.1F and came in with the 2nd warmest.

Atlantic city recorded a new record of 90 degree June days with 14, previous record was 11.
Philadelphia tied the record of 90 degree June days with 14.

36F in Bradford PA this morning. Temperatures may reach 100 in Philly on Monday-Tuesday. Isn't it ironic? Don't you think?

Looks like it will be a dry heat with low humidity Saturday - Tuesday. Slight humidity Wednesday and may approach high humidity Thursday.

I last cut my Aunt's grass 2 weeks ago today. I went over there this morning to make another cut and it is entirely singed yellow-brown, looks like a real fire hazard. I didn't even cut it today because I'd be going over nothing.

Might not see a drop of rain for the foreseable next 2 weeks. With the hot temperatures, it's becoming a semi-arid desert so far this summer. Look at that big hole on the 5-day precip map above.

Thanks all for stopping by! We had a wonderful trip with great weather including quite a strong thunderstorm overnight off the coast of North Carolina. Wind readings above the bridge recorded gusts around 50mph with very heavy rain and vivid lightning with a bit of rough surf. In any case unfortunately I had basically no interaction with anything weather related on my trip due to high cell phone billing from the cruise ship, but looking at this past week's weather, it appears it was a quiet week with cooler weather. Now it looks like a major multi-day heat wave is in store with very dry weather. I would expect 100F readings this week as far north as Harrisburg. I will have more in the coming days after I relax from a busy trip. I enjoyed immensly the Kennedy Space Center tour as we had a behind-the-scenes look at the history and programs. Also we took a trip to the incredible paradise of the Atlantis Resort, which was a wonderful day. I must say I enjoyed the Bahamas much more than our recent trip to the Riveria Maya in Cancun, Mexico. The atmosphere of the islands just seemed more appealing...

...and here we go again...

Excessive heat watch in effect from Tuesday afternoon through
Wednesday evening...

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued an
excessive heat watch... which is in effect from Tuesday afternoon
through Wednesday evening.

Another round of near record heat... combined with increasing
humidity Tuesday and Wednesday... will result in heat index values
reaching or exceeding 100 degrees for a few hours both afternoons.

Another heat wave is starting across the region this afternoon...
and will continue for most of the upcoming week. Highs Monday will
top out in the mid to upper 90s... with a few 100 degree reading
possible. However... humidity values will still be comparatively
low... so heat index values Monday afternoon will actually be a
couple of degrees lower than the air temperature.

Increasing humidity values are expected Tuesday and particularly
Wednesday. High temperatures both days as expected to top out near
100 degrees in many places. The increased humidity will send heat
index values to near 102 degrees both Tuesday and Wednesday
afternoon. Lows Tuesday night may not drop below the 80 degree
mark.

With little in the way of significant relief in sight... heat
index values may approach or exceed 100 degrees for a time
Thursday afternoon as well.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

An excessive heat watch means that a prolonged period of hot
temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and
high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in
which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids... stay
in an air-conditioned room... stay out of the sun... and check up
on relatives and neighbors.

We got very close to 90 today, and the forecast calls for 90s the next four days, which will be our longest streak of 90s since 2002. Not as bad as it will be east of here, but with no air conditioning and the humidity, it will be a LONG, hot week. I noticed for the first time today that many yards are turning brown, but mine is green for now. Stay Cool!

Why is the Excessive Heat Warning always for the same counties in the Mount Holly area? Is it because they are the core urban areas in the Philly area with the greatest concentration of the area's populace?

Yes. Sometimes it's designated for the highly urbanized areas (concrete) within those counties, or the more typical hot spots like the southern Pinelands in southern New Jersey (sandy soils) etc...

Also, heat warning criterea in the Delaware and Maryland counties are slightly higher than for New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

101F for the 4pm update at Selinsgrove. KSEG sits almost in a bowl allowing for high temperatures in the summer similar to Williamsport, so it is not surprising they broke 100F. I am up to 99F, which basically signals for me that tomorrow I will definitely break 100F. Also I noted for those of us with Davis stations a new message when it got this hot... it says "High Heat Index Advisory." I have never seen this message before.

I've officially hit a buck even today. What do you mean Blizz, your station sent you a message or something?

I believe I'm correct in saying that dry soils like we have aid in higher daytime temperatures by a few degrees while keeping dewpoints a little lower than when soils are normal correct? I'm like 90% sure.

I actually dropped a few tenths. now at 96.8F. the high was 97.8F at 410pm. I can't believe how low the humidity is for this high of temp and July. my humidity is 24%. that is dry, even for January conditions.

my Vantage Pro has no message. could be it doesn't have a high temp message for the Vantage Pro. I must say for not being fan aspirated, I have been very pleased with the temp and humidity readings
