Weather Underground's Community of Backyard Meteorologists Provides Local Weather Conditions to iGoogle Users

Weather Underground's international network of over 13,000 Personal Weather Stations serves neighborhood-by-neighborhood weather conditions for the updated version of iGoogle

SAN FRANCISCO, October 20th, 2008 . Weather Underground, the nation's first online weather service, is pleased to announce that its Personal Weather Station network is now providing iGoogle's new canvas view weather gadget with the most granular weather information available on the web. With over 10,000 active stations in the US and almost 3,500 across the rest of the world, Weather Underground's network of Personal Weather Stations is the largest in existence.

The canvas view weather gadget for the updated version of iGoogle presents an interactive weather map that plots each personal weather station over the top of a Google Maps interface. Users can scroll across the world to view weather conditions at any zoom level. Clicking on a station anywhere in the world will bring up current conditions and forecasts for that area.

In addition to viewing weather stations on iGoogle's interactive map, users are able to overlay cloud cover (satellite) across the world as well as precipitation (radar, US only). The canvas view weather gadget also provides regular weather information for locations around the globe including: current conditions, wind, humidity, chance of precipitation, detailed 5-day forecasts, visibility, pressure, UV, air quality, and local airport conditions.
