The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued a wind chill warning... which is in effect from noon Thursday to noon CST Friday. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until noon CST Thursday.
* Timing... mainly light snowfall to briefly moderate snowfall will persist well into the night... with additional accumulations expected to average 1 to 2 inches. North to northwest winds will continue to strengthen... which will produce bitterly cold wind chills and greatly reduced visibilities in blowing snow... through Thursday in open areas. While winds will diminish modestly on Thursday evening..bitterly cold temperatures will maintain dangerously cold wind chills.
* Accumulations... total snowfall of 4 to 6 inches will be common through Thursday morning.
* Wind and visibility... northwest winds will increase to 20 to 35 mph late this evening and continue into Thursday. Visibilities may be reduced to around one quarter mile at times in open areas from blowing snow... mainly after midnight and lasting into Thursday morning.
* Wind chill values... wind chills of 25 to 35 below zero will develop later tonight... and continue through midday Thursday. Wind chill readings will plunge to 35 below to 45 below zero Thursday night into Friday morning.
