    Weather Summary

    Shaun Tanner
Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, July 06, 2008. A front and low pressure system will move out of the Rockies and into the Plains while also stretching northeastward into the Upper Midwest. The frontal boundary will allow deep moisture to pool along the boundary and produce showers and thunderstorms from eastern Colorado through Wisconsin. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight chance of severe weather from eastern Nebraska through Wisconsin. Residents in the region should monitor local weather conditions and be prepared for changing weather conditions.

Moist flow in the Southeast and along the Southeast Coast will continue to produce widespread scattered showers and thunderstorms. In addition, moist flow into southern Texas will also instigate showers and thunderstorms in that portion of the state.

In the West, daytime heating will produce more scattered showers in the Southwest and along the Rocky Mountains.

A ridge of high pressure will slide into the state and begin a heat wave in California and the Southwest. Temperatures will gradually rise throughout the week and will reach into the triple digits for many places by Wednesday.

The Northeast will rise into the 70s and 80s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 80s and 90s. The Southern Plains will rise into the 90s and 100s, while the Southwest and inland California will see temperatures in the 90s and 100s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Saturday ranged from a low of 36 degrees at Truckee, Calif. to a high of 120 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.

    Dr. Jeff Masters' WunderBlog:

Bertha over warmer waters, should strengthen

    Dr. Jeff Masters

Tropical Storm Bertha continues west-northwestward over the open Atlantic, and has now moved over some warmer Sea Surface Temperatures (SSTs) of 26°C. Wind shear has remained about 10-15 knots, and the storm appears to be responding to these slightly more favorable conditions by generating a larger area of heavy thunderstorm activity near the center. The tops of these more vigorous thunderstorms reach higher into the atmosphere, and thus show up as colder in infrare...

    Did you know that...

It was sunny on this date in 1991 at St. Paul Island, Alaska. This is not exciting until you know that the next 60 days were cloudy, with the next sunny day occurring on September 5th. When the sun finally came out, the island reported a daily record high of 55 degrees.
