Tropical Storm Hanna will slam into the Southeast coast on Saturday morning bringing near hurricane force winds and heavy rain to North and South Carolina. The storm will cause widespread flooding as up to 5 inches of rain fall throughout the day. After making landfall the storm will accelerate rapidly to the northeast with the storm reaching New Jersey by late evening spreading wind and rain up the coast. In the overnight hours Hanna will push further north and east into New England, eventually moving into Nova Scotia Sunday morning.

The Southern Plains will see generally clear skies as high pressure builds over the Southwest. A weak trough will bring some cloud cover and a few showers to the northern and central Plains.

In the West, a large ridge centered over the coast will bring more hot weather to California and the Southwest. Highs will reach into the upper 90s and low 100s throughout California and the Desert Southwest.

The Northwest will also see above normal temperatures with highs generally in the 70s to upper 80s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of 24 degrees at Yellowstone, Wyo to a high of 113 degrees at Thermal, Calif.
