Statement as of 1:47 PM PST on Enero 05, 2010 ... Winter Weather Advisory in effect from midnight tonight to noon PST Wednesday for the western Columbia River gorge... The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for snow and freezing rain and sleet... which is in effect from midnight tonight to noon PST Wednesday. * Timing... near Hood River... precipitation will change for a brief period to freezing rain after midnight... then to snow late tonight and Wednesday. From around Multnomah Falls to east of Cascade Locks... precipitation will change to freezing rain and sleet after midnight and continue Wednesday. Precipitation will decrease late Wednesday. * Accumulation/snow levels... near Hood River... snow accumulations of up to 2 inches are possible tonight... with 1 to 3 inches Wednesday. A tenth to two tenths of an inch of ice are possible from around Multnomah Falls to east of Cascade Locks. * Strong east winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph are expected especially from Cascade Locks westward that will cause blowing and drifting of snow and wind chills from 5 to 15 degrees. * Impacts... the snow... sleet... freezing rain and wind will likely cause difficult driving conditions through the Columbia River gorge... including along Interstate 84. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while driving. |
