Lake Effect Snow Warning, Winter Weather Advisory

... Lake effect snow warning remains in effect until 1 PM EST
... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 10 am Saturday
to 10 am EST Sunday...
* locations... Lewis and Jefferson counties.
* Timing and hazards... heavy lake effect snow tonight and Friday
morning. A general snow Saturday through late Sunday morning.
* Accumulations... 7 to 13 inches overnight... 3 to 6 inches Friday
in persistent bands. An inch or less Saturday... 3 to 5 inches
Saturday night... and an inch or less Sunday.
* Winds... southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph producing
some blowing and drifting snow.
* Visibilities... as low as a quarter mile at times.
* Impacts... travel will be very difficult at times... with snow
covered roads... areas of blowing and drifting snow... and very
poor visibility. Travel on Interstate 81 will be significantly
impacted. Travel will be nearly impossible at times.
In lake effect snow the weather can vary from locally heavy snow
in narrow bands to clear skies just a few miles away. If you will
be traveling across the region be prepared for rapid changes in
Road and visibility conditions.
If you lose power and plan on running a generator... make sure
that the generator is located outdoors and is properly
ventilated. Space heaters should also be properly ventilated and
used only if they are operating properly. Make sure snow does not
block exhausts and fresh air intakes for high efficiency furnaces
and water heaters.
A Winter Weather Advisory is normally issued for a variety of
winter weather conditions such as light snow... blowing snow...
sleet... freezing rain and wind chills. While the weather will be
significant... the word advisory implies that severe winter
weather is not anticipated.

... Intense lake effect snow continues...
A band of very heavy lake effect snow over southern Jefferson and
central Lewis counties will drift slowly south and back into the
central Tug Hill region through the midnight hour. Conditions will
improve near Watertown and Fort Drum as the band moves south...
while conditions will deteriorate rapidly again from northern
Oswego County to the Tug Hill.
Snowfall rates of 3 to 4 inches per hour are likely in the most
intense portion of this band. Visibility will be near zero at
times. Motorists should be prepared for severe winter driving
conditions... including the Interstate 81 corridor from Pulaski to
