... Hard freeze watch remains in effect from Thursday evening through Sunday morning...
A hard freeze watch remains in effect from Thursday evening through Sunday morning.
A dangerously cold airmass will enter the region Thursday evening... with temperatures plummeting into the teens for Thursday night. Even colder conditions are expected Friday and Saturday nights... with low temperatures falling into the lower teens and possibly single digits. Temperatures will remain below freezing for much of the late week and early weekend time period... with temperatures on Friday and Saturday mainly staying in the 20s. Additionally... north winds will combine with these temperatures to result in wind chill readings near zero in some locations. This will be a particularly dangerous cold air outbreak... and people should take the time now to prepare for the frigid temperatures. Hard freeze highlights could be extended into Monday in some locations if the cold airmass lingers even longer.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A hard freeze watch indicates the possibility for a long duration of temperatures below freezing with overnight lows falling below 20. Pets and livestock should be protected. There could also be damage to sensitive vegetation... exposed plumbing... and water based cooling systems of automobiles and stationary engines.
