A hard freeze warning remains in effect until 9 am CST Wednesday.
A hard freeze watch remains in effect from Thursday evening
through Sunday morning.
A very cold airmass will persist across the region into early
Wednesday. Low temperatures tonight will fall into the middle and
upper teens. Temperatures will not warm above freezing until
Wednesday morning.
A dangerously cold airmass will enter the region Thursday
evening... with temperatures plummeting into the teens for
Thursday night. Even colder conditions are expected Friday and
Saturday nights... with low temperatures falling into the single
digits and lower teens. Temperatures will remain below freezing
for much of the late week and early weekend time period... with
temperatures on Friday and Saturday mainly staying in the 20s.
Additionally... north winds will combine with these temperatures
to result in wind chill readings near zero in some locations.
This will be a particularly dangerous cold air outbreak... and
people should take the time now to prepare for the frigid
temperatures. Hard freeze highlights could be extended into
Monday in some locations if the cold airmass lingers even longer.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A hard freeze warning means a prolonged period of sub-freezing
temperatures are imminent. These conditions could threaten
property such as exposed pipes and will kill any sensitive
vegetation. Check on your elderly friends and family for proper
heating sources. Provide pets with adequate shelter and access to
unfrozen water.
A hard freeze watch indicates the possibility for a long duration
of temperatures below freezing with overnight lows falling below
20. Pets and livestock should be protected. There could also be
damage to sensitive vegetation... exposed plumbing... and water
based cooling systems of automobiles and stationary engines.

... Potential for wintry weather across central Mississippi... northeast
Louisiana... and extreme southeast Arkansas followed by dangerously
cold air...
A very cold airmass will affect the region this week... with hard
freeze conditions along and north of Interstate 20 persisting into
Wednesday morning. Meanwhile... a low pressure system will develop
over the Gulf of Mexico for the middle of this week... while a
Arctic cold front surges southeastward. Moisture from the Gulf of
Mexico will combine with these features to result in the potential
for wintry precipitation across the area for Wednesday night and
Thursday.
A mix of rain... freezing rain... sleet... and snow will overspread the
area from west to east for Wednesday night. This mix is expected to
persist across the region through the day Thursday. However...
precipitation could transition to all rain during the day on Thursday
south of Interstate 20 and west of the Mississippi River. The
precipitation is expected to end as a period of light snow or light
sleet. Light snow and light ice accumulations will be
possible... potentially creating hazardous conditions on area
roadways. Winter weather highlights could become required for this
winter weather event.
The cold front will usher in a dangerously cold airmass for Thursday
night into the weekend... with overnight low temperatures in the
single digits and teens and high temperatures remaining below
freezing across many areas. In fact... temperatures during the day on
Friday and Saturday will mainly stay in the 20s. North winds will
combine with the cold temperatures to result in dangerously cold wind
chill readings near zero at times. A hard freeze watch is in effect
for this time period.
Please continue to monitor additional outlooks and forecasts from the
National Weather Service for details regarding the potential for
wintry weather for Wednesday night into Thursday and frigid
temperatures thereafter. Also... take the necessary precautions to
prepare for the dangerously cold air.

... Potential for wintry weather across the arklamiss region for
Wednesday night and Thursday followed by dangerously cold air...
A very cold airmass will affect the region this week... with hard
freeze conditions along and north of Interstate 20 persisting into
Wednesday morning. Meanwhile... a low pressure system will develop
over the Gulf of Mexico for the middle of this week... while a
powerful cold front surges southeastward. Moisture from the Gulf of
Mexico will combine with these features to result in the potential
for wintry precipitation across the area for Wednesday night and
Thursday.
Accumulating snow will be possible across northern portions of the
region... including the Highway 82 corridor. Further to the south
including the Interstate 20 corridor... a mix of snow and rain will be
possible... along with the potential for freezing rain and sleet.
Across southern Mississippi... much of the precipitation could be plain
rain... with some snow potentially mixing in when the precipitation
ends later on Thursday. Considerable uncertainty remains with regard
to the exact precipitation type and amount across the area.
However... there will be potential for hazardous travel conditions
across the region for Wednesday night and Thursday.
The cold front will usher in a dangerously cold airmass for Thursday
night into the weekend... with overnight low temperatures in the
single digits and teens and high temperatures remaining below
freezing across many areas. In fact... temperatures during the day on
Friday may not reach above the mid 20s. North winds will combine with
the cold temperatures to result in dangerously cold wind chill
readings near zero at times.

National Weather Service for details regarding the potential for
wintry weather for Wednesday night into Thursday and frigid
temperatures thereafter. Also... take the necessary precautions to
prepare for the bitterly cold air.
