... Winter Weather Advisory in effect from noon Wednesday to noon CST Thursday...
The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for snow... blowing snow and extreme wind chills... which is in effect from noon Wednesday to noon CST Thursday.
* Timing and areas affected... snow will develop across southwest Missouri and south central Missouri Wednesday afternoon and increase in coverage and intensity Wednesday night.
* Snow accumulations... 2 to 4 inches of snowfall is possible.
* Winds and visibility... strong northwest winds will occur Wednesday night and Thursday with gusts near 30 to 35 mph. Visibilities will be reduced at times to less than 1 mile. Wind chill values at times will be near minus 15 degrees Wednesday night and Thursday.
* Impacts... travel will become difficult due to accumulating snowfall... reduced visibilities and blowing and drifting snow. Prolonged exposure to extreme wind chills could lead to frost bite and hypothermia.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Weather Advisory means that snow and blowing snow will limit visibilities due to a combination of falling and blowing snow. Use caution when traveling... especially in open areas. Very cold air and winds will combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you must venture outdoors... make sure you wear a hat and gloves.
