... The Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice for the Altamaha river in northern Glynn County in southeast Georgia...
At 300 PM EST on Wednesday January 6th the stage at the Altamaha regional park 3 miles northeast of Everett city was 14.18 feet. At 13.0 feet... elevated water levels will impact Altamaha Park Road and Pennick Road. Portions of Altamaha Park will be inundated.
The river will fall below 14.0 feet on Thursday... then continue a slow and steady fall through the weekend.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Do not drive your vehicle into areas where water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely. It only takes a foot or two of water to sweep most cars away.
Residents are urged to to monitor the situation on NOAA Weather Radio or on the internet at the National Weather Service in Jacksonville website... weather.Gov/jax.
... Icy bridges and roadways possible Friday morning...
A cold front preceded by scattered rain showers will approach southeast Georgia late Thursday night... then push south of the area early Friday morning. Although rainfall amounts are not expected to be much more than a tenth of an inch... the rainfall will begin to end as freezing temperatures begin to filter south of the Altamaha River Valley before sunrise Friday morning. The combination of the moist surface and cold temperatures could create icy roadways... especially over area bridges and overpasses. This could create very hazardous driving conditions.
There is a low chance of sleet or flurries across southeast Georgia... mainly along and north of a Jesup to Waycross to person line... around sunrise. No accumulations of frozen precipitation are expected.

... Hard freeze warning remains in effect from 8 PM this evening to 9 am EST Thursday...
A hard freeze warning remains in effect from 8 PM this evening to 9 am EST Thursday.
High pressure will settle over the area tonight... bringing light winds and nearly ideal radiational cooling. As a result... another hard freeze warning has been issued for tonight. Sub-freezing temperatures will persist for up to 12 hours. Minimum temperatures will range lower to mid 20s across much of northeast Florida and southeast Georgia with upper teens possible over portions of interior northeast Florida. High cloudiness will increase over southeast Georgia after midnight... keeping temperatures slightly warmer than the rest of the area.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A hard freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation. Young children... the elderly... the homeless and outdoor pets are especially vulnerable to the cold. Take measures to protect them. Be particularly careful with portable heaters... there is danger of fire or poisonous fumes. Appropriate action should be taken to ensure exposed water pipes have adequate protection from the cold temperatures.
