Wet weather will turn to snow over much Northern US on Thanksgiving Day as a system hovers over the Great Lakes. A strong low pressure system will slowly persist on its eastward track and continue to pull cool Canadian air into the Northern Plains and down the Mississippi River Valley. A cold front will extend south from the center of this system and extend over the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys and wrap back around westward into the Southern Plains. This system is expected to continue kicking up scattered showers over the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley regions, while the southern end of this front will remain drier. Rainfall totals will remain less than a quarter of an inch, and could turn into light snow by evening. In the Upper Midwest, this system will produce light and scattered snowfall throughout the day with accumulation remaining less than a half of an inch. This front will also bring strong winds with gusts up to 20-30 mph. Expect a chilly Thanksgiving Day over most of the Central US with the North remaining in the 30s, and the South only reaching into the 60s. Frost and freeze advisories will remain in effect over the Southern Plains and parts of the Southeast as overnight lows will dip into the 30s.

The Northeast will see increasingly clouds skies throughout the day with precipitation initiating later in the day. Most of the East Coast will remain seasonable with highs in the 50s and 60s.

Out West the Pacific Northwest will remain wet on Thanksgiving as a cold front lingers over the region. Expect near an inch of rain over the region, while high elevations of the Cascades and Northern Rockies will see another few inches of snow. Meanwhile, high pressure in the Southwest will bring another dry and sunny day to the rest of the West Coast.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of -2 degrees at Alamosa, Colo. to a high of 87 degrees at Lake Forrest, Calif.
